International Space Station

On August 24th, 2011 Concept Zero (Nicky Nada and Casey Hughes) were contacted by Howell Ivy of Valley Christian High School in San Jose California with the interest of working with their team on an 8 part "Nano Lab" experiment to be sent to the International Space Station for zero gravity testing. The requirement was to create a tiny two part ferrofluid cell to be installed within a series of 5 electromagnetic coils, a camera, and the necessary circuitry and power supply to run the apparatus. Our experiment was one of the 8 nano lab experiments which would focus on the study of  "the effects of microgravity on metal particles in the presence electro magnetic fields."

After successful testing and implementation the tiny payload containing the ferrofluid experiment, and the 7 others making up the Nano Lab were launched into space on March 28th, 2012. The Nanolab experiments garnered attention from the President of the United States, Barak Obama, and Tom Hanks. We were very honored to be a small part of the Nano Lab's success, and to have contributed to the first of series of Nano Lab experiments soon to be widely available to students and groups across the United States, putting space research within the grasps of groups without billion dollar budgets. The future promises to host many more wonderful opportunities for young minds to shoot for the stars thanks to Lee Valley Christian Highschool and the Nano Lab Team.
